No.

However, we do center the Black (African) American experience because we have been left out and mistreated. Therefore, we know how life and health can be affected by things like racism—even at the DNA level!

Our mission is for ALL people to prosper—be healthy, whole, and free from sickness in mind, body, and spirit. We give care that helps everyone—because everyone deserves health. When we say “ALL people,” we mean it!

Sadly, the facts show that not everyone is treated equally in healthcare. Black (African) Americans don’t get fair or equal care. Research and statistics prove what we see and live every day.

Did you know:

  • 80% of all chronic health problems and deaths can be prevented!
Yet, Black Americans and many other people still die up to 20 years sooner—just from preventable diseases or suicide.

We know this doesn’t make sense—because racism doesn’t make sense!

So, we’re here to help change that, to build real health equity for Black Americans and everyone who needs us.

We share this to be honest and real. If you’re open to us, we’re open to you—no matter who you are! ❤️

Great question—we’re open to everyone!

We are a faith-based practice, and we believe in the Word (Jesus) from the Bible. That means we believe what God says about you—and in your natural power and purpose. Our goal is to help you remember who you ARE and become your true best self.

When we say “BE AFYA—BE You. BE Health. BE Whole in mind, body & spirit. Prosper—in all ways, always!” that’s what we mean!

We know people and religions (even Christians and Christianity) have used the Bible in hurtful, wrong ways. This has caused racism, religious trauma, and pain for many—so we get why this is a big question, and why you might feel unsure.

We work very hard to represent and live by The Word (Jesus) correctly, offering care that’s loving and kind—no matter your beliefs.

The real healing and work comes from the Holy Spirit in you.

What matters most is ACTION. We want to “show & prove” with our care, not just talk about it.

So, we say this to be honest and clear: If you’re open to us, we’re open to YOU—whatever your background or beliefs! ❤️

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), health literacy means being able to find, understand, and use health information and services the right way to keep yourself well.

Health literacy also means speaking up, asking questions, and sharing what you need for good health.

The best way to get better at health literacy is to have access to reliable, true health information—because what you don’t know really can affect you.

We give special, detailed, and personal care to find and fix the real causes of mental health problems. We do this by using:

  • Culture, faith, and healthy habits as medicine
  • Precision psychiatry (care that’s just right for YOU)
  • Lifestyle medicine and prevention
  • Root-cause medicine (solving the real reason for sickness)
  • Whole-person medicine (looking at your mind, body, and spirit)

We are one of the only clinics in the United States with four board certifications, and we are proud to be Black-owned and led by a Black woman—with a strong focus on Black (African American) mental and physical health.

We’re able to help Black men and women, and others who’ve been left out or not listened to before, get the best care possible!

The American Psychological Association says a subspecialty is a special area of knowledge and skill inside a bigger field.

To do this work, you need extra learning and real-life experience. Subspecialty clinics focus on special problems, groups of people, or ways to help.

Subspecialty clinics look for the main cause of health problems and offer specific, full treatment options. They work to help you get better, keep you from getting sick, or even reverse sickness—so you can live longer and healthier!

We think our care is the best—(yes, we’re biased! 😉)—but we also know everyone’s journey is unique.

Does any of this sound like you?

  • You want your mind and body to heal and feel strong again.
  • You want to learn how your habits and daily life can help you get better.
  • You wonder if there’s a real reason for your health problems—something that’s causing it all.
  • You don’t want to depend only on medicine to get healthy.
  • You take lots of medicines but still don’t feel better—or you want to stop taking so many, if possible.
  • You feel ignored, not listened to, or not believed by your doctor—even though you know your own body.
  • No one can explain “why” you have these symptoms or problems, but you know there’s a reason.
  • You want to fix problems at the root—not just cover them up.
  • You want to stop sickness before it starts or gets worse, if possible.
  • You notice body changes—like blood pressure problems, headaches, frequent or infrequent bathroom trips, persistent pain, exhaustion, sensitivity to stress, heart racing, dizziness, or tingling.

The list keeps going! You might already be getting the care you need and deserve but if you
want to find out where your health stands: Book your 🧬Root Cause Reality Check Consultation today!

Yes—they sure do!

Does this sound like you?

  • You know the truth, live by it, and want a life full of health (Afya).
  • You are a leader—a role model and game changer for your family, work, and community.
  • You are bold, take action, and know your life improves when you do.
  • You make mental, body, and spirit health a top priority—for yourself, your family, and your future.
  • You believe it’s important to stop disease before it starts, and treat it the right way.
  • You’ve been searching for personalized care made just for you—not the same-old, same-old!
  • You are ready to take charge of your health and BE AFYA—be yourself, be healthy, be whole in every way!

Our subspecialty care isn’t for everyone—it’s for those who know it’s right for them!

Specialty care is for people who think outside the box, do things differently, and want better in life.

To reach your health and life goals, you need to invest time, money, energy, and effort—just like we do for you! When you do, you break free from just “the usual” and live a better life.

If you’re ready to do things differently—this is the place for you!

Yes!

Because functional and integrative care isn’t needed for everyone, the costs can be high—and you should think carefully before starting.

We want you to BE AFYA, but you need to feel truly ready.

Our consultation helps you make a smart choice about what’s best for you right now—and if you’re not ready, we’ll help you know what to do next, too.

🧬 Root Cause Reality Check Consultation

⏱️A Real 20 Minute YOU Focused Conversation With Dr. Devin N. Bailey, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, DipACLM:  A powerful, fully focused 20-minute consult with Dr. Devin N. Bailey, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, DipACLM — no filters. You’ll feel what it’s like to be deeply heard by a triple-board-certified psychiatric, family & lifestyle medicine specialist who integrates science, soul, and strategy.

  • Why it matters: Because you’re done being dismissed. This is care that meets your complexity — and rises to it.

🧠Get Your Mind Right Neuropsychiatry Check: A high-level screening tool (used by top academic centers) interpreted by expert eyes. We look at over 60+ possible conditions and patterns that are too often misdiagnosed or flat-out missed — especially in Black, high-performing individuals.

  • Why it matters: Because you deserve a clinical lens that knows what to look for — and what others overlook.

📂Personalized Starter Wellness Plan: You’ll leave with a strategic roadmap: focused lifestyle, lab, supplement, and therapeutic recommendations tailored to your current patterns, culture, values, and vision. This is where your transformation begins — rooted in precision, not guesswork.

  • Why it matters: Because you don’t need another generic protocol — you need a plan built around you.

✨ The Value of Being Understood: This level of care and clinical strategy would cost $2,000+ in most integrative clinics. But more importantly, it’s the cost of staying stuck, misdiagnosed, and managing what could be solved.

Yes! Functional & Integrative Psychiatry and Lifestyle & Preventative Medicine are safe—and they are the best choice for lasting health results.

Functional and Integrative Psychiatry is whole-person focused-mind, body, and spirit. We use proven (evidence-based) medicine, but also go deeper to find and fix the real causes of your health issues.

Lifestyle Medicine puts YOU at the center. Your daily choices become powerful medicine that helps you heal and stay well.

Preventative Medicine means stopping problems before they start and keeping you from needing more medicine.

Why is this the BETTER option for health?

  • It helps you heal the real problem, not just cover up symptoms.
  • It supports your body’s natural ability to get better.
  • You get fewer side effects and need less medication.
  • It can prevent disease from getting worse or even starting.
  • You feel stronger, healthier, and stay well longer.

This approach leads to better, long-lasting results—not just for you, but for your family and future generations!

A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is the highest level of education in nursing.

An advanced practice nurse or nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who has completed extra education and earned a special license.

A PMHNP-BC (Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner) and FNP-BC (Family Nurse Practitioner) have passed advanced board exams in family medicine and psychiatry.

A DipACLM means Diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine—someone who is board-certified in lifestyle medicine.

With her clinical doctorate (DNP), Virginia license, and three board certifications (FNP, PMHNP, and DipACLM), she is: Dr. Devin N. Bailey, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, DipACLM!

No, I do not serve as a primary care provider (PCP).

I used to love being a PCP, and that’s why my approach is family medicine plus psychiatry—but now, my clinic focuses on specialty care: Functional & Integrative Psychiatry and Lifestyle & Preventative Medicine.

Our clinic does not serve as your regular PCP but we work in tandem with them!

This way, your physical health stays managed, and we can work together as part of your team to help you reach your best health and results!

Yes, we help children!

Right now, there is a waitlist—but please keep reading if you’re interested.

Our child and teen psychiatry services are for ages 2–17, so we can help your child at every stage of growing up.

Children need you—their caregiver—for their health, safety, and happiness. Kids learn by watching and copying adults. If your child seems withdrawn or acts out, it may mean something is off in the family, not just with them. Lots of things—money, stress, work, or even things from your own childhood—can affect this.

But—change is possible when we change how we care!

That’s why we ask you, the caregiver, to be fully involved and committed to your child’s health and your own. When adults don’t stay engaged, problems can get bigger—especially as children grow.

Ready to make a difference for your child and yourself? Let’s work together!

At The AFYA Effect Family Healthcare Services, we help with many mental health needs, including:

Unfortunately, we do not accept insurance.

At The AFYA Effect, we do healthcare differently. We treat you as a partner in your care and give you plenty of time, attention, and a plan that’s made just for you.

We don’t use insurance because insurance usually means quick visits and a focus on “fixing” problems instead of preventing them. We want to help you learn what started the problem, how to get better now, and how to stay healthy for the future!

When you pay us directly, we can really listen, give you the time you need, and make sure your care fits what matters most—to you.

We know healthcare costs matter, so we accept lots of easy ways to pay: card, FSA, HSA, ACH, check, PayPal, Cash App, Klarna, and Apple Pay—so it’s easier for you.

We cannot care for patients with Medicaid or Medicare because of the rules. However, you are always welcome at our FREE community education events!

Sadly, no—we cannot serve patients with Medicaid or Medicare.

Yes, we most definitely do!

No—you don’t have to stay forever, and that's actually our intention!

The goal is for you to feel so good and confident that you only stay with us because you want to, not because you have to.

You choose how long to work with us.

Some people need a plan or a second opinion to share with their own doctor. Others want regular psychiatry check-ins, and some join our intensive program until they feel strong and ready.

It’s YOUR decision.

Our job is to help you get healthier, know your own body, and feel in control—so you don’t need lots of medicine or doctor visits.

Everyone’s journey is different, and we’ll help you find what’s best for you.

The AFYA Effect Family Healthcare Services gives each patient caring, personal, and complete health support. We focus on your whole self—mind, body, and spirit—and include your culture, faith, and lifestyle in your care.

Our team is highly trained in nursing, family medicine, psychiatry, and lifestyle medicine. We combine all these skills so you get the best treatment for mental AND physical health.

We are one of the only clinics in the country with four board certifications and are Black-owned and led by a Black woman. That’s why we can help Black men and women, people who’ve been left out before, or anyone who’s tried many medications without success. We get to the real reason behind your health issues—sometimes it’s something simple, like not absorbing protein! If possible, we help you take fewer medicines.

We believe in God working inside you, and what God says about you. So we BELIEVE in YOU! We encourage you to use all healthy options—not just medicine alone, or exercise alone, or any one thing—to get and stay healthy.

We don’t take insurance, because insurance usually means quick fixes, not real prevention. By accepting direct payment, we can give you more time, more attention, and the right plan for you.

Our main goal is for you to feel truly seen and cared for, to experience real healing, and to gain the skills to take charge of your health—so we support you, but you grow stronger, not more dependent.

Don’t just take our word for it. Read the patient reviews and see what people have experienced with us!

Lifestyle Medicine is a type of medicine that uses healthy habits as treatment. Doctors use these habits to help prevent and treat long-term health problems—like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity.
