Our mission is that people prosper in ALL ways, always, by way of experiencing Afya (Swahili): Wholeness of mind, body, and spirit; health (the state of being free from and of physical or psychological dis-ease, illness, or malfunction!

However, when we say people, we mean all people. Unfortunately, the statistics continue to show that this has not been the collective belief (made obvious through practice) in healthcare, leading to obvious healthcare inequity among Black/African Americans. These statistics are the direct result, reflection, and proof of systemic racism that is not limited to healthcare only, hence widespread experiences of trauma and PTSD among Black/African Americans.

Having said that, we are sensitive to this because we have direct experience and insight as Black/African Americans, as Black/African Americans in healthcare, and as a Black nurse practitioner and healthcare professional & expert. 

Therefore, we understand our purpose, one of which is to ACTIVELY change the system and its corresponding results related to Black/African American people so that we, too, can experience equity & equality across the board!

No!!....But (yes, there is but ❤️)....

We are a faith-integrated practice, and we do believe in The Word (Jesus) as per the Bible.  We are careful to accurately present, incorporate, & model The Word, as taught & modeled by The Word, which will speak and do the work itself.  

Unfortunately, the Bible has been used as a weapon throughout time, inaccurately taught & presented by people and religions, producing widespread experiences of racism, racial trauma, and religious trauma, and yes, PTSD. So please believe, we understand the hesitancy and the reason why this question might be asked.

"Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks"....basically what you believe (no matter what, whether it be your spiritual beliefs to what you truly believe about yourself, like your self-worth) is always made obvious by what we say (and do). 

There is just no getting around this truth! Even Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and talk therapy are based upon this principle! We would even dare you to experiment to see for yourself (pay attention to what you or others think about, feel, say, and do, and you will see how it's all positively and negatively connected). 

So, our job here is to stand on business and BE "imitators of Christ," provide quality healthcare services, and allow you to take(receive) & perceive from it what you will, no matter your spiritual beliefs.

Always (yes, bias is indeed present 😉) but we also understand that everyone experiences life differently, so here are some things to consider...

As a clinic that offers specialty services and operates in an integrative specialist capacity (e.g., Integrative & Functional Psychiatry), we require our patients to have and maintain regular follow-up appointments with a PCP. This is to manage all physical health-related issues and ensure a holistic healthcare team is in place to optimize your health.

We provide holistic psychiatry services for the entire state of Virginia, meaning if you have ever asked Google "psychiatrist near me," or "holistic doctors near me" we have you covered!

Our child and adolescent psychiatry services are designed for individuals aged 2-17, ensuring that we can provide support for your child at every stage of their development.

Children rely entirely on you, the caregiver, for their care, well-being, and livelihood. Children often reflect & model the behavior (and beliefs) they observe & experience from their parents. A disengaged, overly independent, or withdrawn child typically indicates emotionally unavailable or overbearing parents. While various factors beyond our control, such as the economy, finances, work-life balance, and parental childhood trauma, can influence this, it's essential to remember that change is always possible when we change our approach.

Therefore, we REQUIRE you as the caregiver to be FULLY ENGAGED & COMMITTED  to yourself and your child's wellbeing. Failing to do so can lead to unnecessary challenges, especially until the child becomes more independent.

A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is a clinical doctorate indicative of the highest level of education in a profession; in this case, nursing! 

An advanced practice registered nurse [APRN] or licensed nurse practitioner [LNP] is a registered nurse [RN] who has obtained additional, advanced training, education, and licensure as a nurse practitioner. 

A PMHNP-BC and FNP-BC have obtained additional education and board certifications in the practice of family medicine & psychiatry (by way of nursing)!

Dr. Devin N. Bailey has obtained her clinical doctorate (DNP), license (Virginia) & dual board certifications as a FNP and PMHNP!!

This results in hurried appointments, unsatisfactory health outcomes, and burnout among healthcare providers. At our practice, we like to draw outside of the lines, so we refuse to be forced into a box by these limitations. Our steadfast commitment is to prioritize quality over quantity, ensuring that every patient receives the time and attention they deserve and can trust in the exceptional standard of care they will receive.

We understand that healthcare costs can be a burden, which is why we offer a range of direct payment options, including debit, credit, FSA, HSA, ACH, check, PayPal, Cash App, Klarna, and Apple Pay. This diverse array of payment methods is intended to make our services more accessible and affordable for all of our patients.

Our clinic does NOT accept insurance, so you would not be able to use insurance to see us as a patient. 

However, you do have some options below:

1. Use direct payment (e.g. cash, debit/credit, ACH, PayPal credit, FSA/HSA, etc.) to pay for our clinic's services. 
2. Use your insurance to pay for or cover the costs of lab work, referrals, imaging studies, and tests that we order, as appropriate. 
3. Use our introductory services, consulting, and second-opinion services. These are also direct payments, offered at a lower investment (cost) to you so that you can at least get information to return to and discuss with your healthcare provider(s).
4. Attend our complimentary and/or paid virtual community education events beginning in the near future!
5. Seek medical services at other equally awesome clinics that accept insurance!

We understand that our clinic is not for everyone, whether it be because of our mission, beliefs, treatment plan, or direct payment over insurance. This is why we offer multiple services as well as community coaching events!

On the flip side there are many other equally awesome medical providers and options available for everyone to get their patient and client needs met!

The investment for services at The AFYA Effect Family Healthcare Services varies depending on the type, structure of service(s), program length, and/or depth of care, access, and transformation you desire. 

Our services range from a minimum of $0 for our complimentary community events and webinars to $25,000 or more for some of our premium programs.
